[Urgent] Re: Public Consultation on the Use of Radiography
The College of Chiropractors of British Columbia (CCBC) has proposed changes to our current x-ray guidelines; eliminating the use of x-ray for anything beyond red flag (fractures, etc.) concerns. Without significant feedback against these changes, they will likely take effect later this year.
These changes would severely restrict your chiropractor's ability to take x-rays when evaluating biomechanical/alignment problems found during a physical exam. They would also eliminate any follow up x-ray, often used to confirm the appropriate intervention or modify a course of treatment. X-ray analysis of the spine is a foundational part of several chiropractic techniques, including what we primarily use in this office.
If you are currently under corrective care with us, these proposed changes will directly impact how we proceed when and if they are passed.
I am against the proposed changes. These proposed changes are not aligned with an evidence informed model of care. As they; appear to be biased in the selection of scientific evidence, remove the ability of the chiropractor to draw from their clinical experience and training/education, and most importantly they remove the choice from you, the patient; regarding your preferences and eliminating several chiropractic techniques available to you. These techniques are recognized as a part of our continuing education, and are currently being taught as a part of the core curriculum and/or elective courses in Chiropractic Colleges worldwide.
I will personally be writing my feedback to the CCBC. But, my feedback doesn’t carry the same weight as yours. Please take the time to write the CCBC; if you would like to maintain both your and the public’s ability to decide with the chiropractor if x-rays are best for your care, feel that x-rays have improved the outcome and understanding of your condition, or have a personal experience that you would like to share regarding this issue.
Please provide feedback to the CCBC, no later than 4:30pm on September 8th, 2020.
